Foxy Lady

My brother married a Fox. Literally. Her maiden name was Fox, and she lives up to the hype. She is breathtakingly beautiful and has a heart of gold. I know you don’t know her as well as I do, but, if you had to take a guess at the woodland creature she collects…what would you say?
Wrong. The girl collects owls. So when I got my first yard of Alexander Henry home fabric “It’s a Hoot” (see two entries down), I knew it had to be hers.
She requested a pillow and here it is….

I followed a pattern from this lovely blog, and added some quilted lines on the back.

Pre-sweepstakes

I may start referring to my life in pre/post sweepstakes timeframes. Pre-sweepstakes, it felt like everything was up in the air. I am finishing school, hoping to get a job; raising a two-year old, hoping I am doing it well; wanting to be the best wife/friend/sister/daughter I can be.

So even though my husband was a bit annoyed that I gave our luck up for a fabric sweepstakes, I think this is just what I needed. Because post-sweepstakes; I know each month I will get yard of fabric. I can pick a project, follow the instructions, and have a little something of lovely for myself or someone I love. I believe this because pre-sweepstakes, I delved into One Yard Wonders, and made a few things…."turquoise"

Here is my storey

First, I feel as though I should let you know the misspelling of “storey” is intentional. It should all be cleared up soon enough. Perhaps I feel the need to explain my spelling because of my childhood experience of being laughed at for getting all the spelling words wrong. (that was back when other kids corrected your test during class, they don’t do that anymore…) Either way, I am starting this blog because of Storey Publishing. I received one of their books, One Yard Wonders, for Christmas this year. The book has 101 sewing projects for one yard of fabric! This is fantastic for a girl like me who compulsively buys fantastic fabric. This book was extra special because one of the authors co-owns the best fabric shop in Minneapolis (my hometown), Crafty Planet.

Anyway…the book had a sweepstakes connected to it! Brilliant really, the winners would receive one yard of fabric each month for a year!!!!!

I was contacted last month and told I was one of the winners!!!! People who know me understand this was ment to be. I have been sewing for many years, and create lovely handbags for a couple local stores. It is pretty low-key, as I am also a mom, wife, and school counseling student! My business name is Mama J. Creations, named after my high school home ec teacher.

So, back to Storey publishing, One Yard Wonders, and the fantastic sweepstakes. My plan is to blog the story of each wonderful yard I get this year! From the day it comes to whatever it becomes!

Here is what I found when I opened my first package from Storey Publishing…

I wonder which of my owl loving family member will get something made from this?!

Check back soon to see what I made!
